North Rankin A Sea Water Reverse Osmosis Plant, WA

The Client

Woodside is one of Australia’s top ten companies by market capitalisation, and the nation’s largest publicly-traded oil and gas exploration and production company.

It is Australia’s largest independent producer of oil and gas and one of the world’s largest producers of LNG.

The Client's Needs

The North Rankin platform, commissioned in 1984, is one of the largest capacity gas production platforms in the world. Approximately 120 employees are accommodated on North Rankin.

North Rankin supplies gas and condensate to Woodside’s onshore gas plant located near Karratha (135kms). The platform is offshore, making access to drinking water difficult.

Veolia's Solution

Veolia Water Technologies was awarded a contract for the design and build of a reverse osmosis desalination plant.

This plant treats sea water to create high quality drinking water for employees as the offshore platform is in a remote location with high quality drinking water difficult to source.

The plant includes pre-treatment (multimedia filtration, activated carbon, cartridge filtration, antiscalant chemicals), reverse osmosis and post-treatment (calcite filtration, chlorine dosing).

Veolia also provides ongoing service support with spares, consumables and maintenance to ensure the plant works efficiently.
