Coca Cola Amatil Nanofiltration Plant, SA
The Client
Coca Cola
Coca-Cola Amatil is the principal Coca-Cola licensee in Australia and independently manufactures its own soft drinks and mineral waters.
Coca-Cola was introduced to Australia in 1937 and by early 1938 the first manufacturing plant began operating in Sydney. CCA entered the Australian beverage industry in 1964 and by 1990 had acquired all the Australian.
Coca-Cola bottling licensed territories in Australia, except for those in part of the Northern Territory.
The Client's Needs
In 1998, Coca-Cola Amatil needed to replace its ageing Mixed Bed Deioniser System.
Veolia's Solution
Coca-Cola Amatil chose to replace its ageing Mixed Bed DeioniserSystem with an 86-300 model Nanofiltration System.
The plant treats bore water, or a mixture of bore and mains water, to produce potable water which meets the Coca-Cola standard for bottling.
The plant comprises:
- A chlorine dosing system for raw water disinfection
- 3 x33% Pressure sand filter units
- 2 x50% Carbon filter units (steam sterilisable)
- A filtered water UV unit
- 2 x50% NF units with antiscalantdosing, cartridge filters, and high pressure pumps
- A treated water UV unit
The plant is fully automatic with instrumentation for measurement and control of all vital parameters.
The system operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week, automatically switching to recirculation during low demand periods to minimise the chance of bacterial growth.
Shutdown only occurs during routine quarterly maintenance visitscarried out by Veolia’s services group.
Hydrex® Water Chemicals 4105 Antiscalant & 4705 Cleaner are used to clean and reduce scale and corrosion of the reverse osmosis membranes.
